Fieldtrip to Schow Farm

Rachel, Brock and I visited the Schow family farm for Rachel’s Kindergarten fieldtrip a couple weeks ago. The Schow family opened up their farm to give tours to the Kindergarteners from two local schools. The kids petted pigs and sheep; they saw Clydesdale horses, turkeys, and kittens; they fed rainbow trout and chickens; and Rachel even got to feed Gatorade to a little lamb, an experience she relished.

I wanted to get a terrific picture of her feeding the lamb and I tried to get in a great spot outside the pen to take a picture, but it wasn’t the best location and I never did get the shot I wanted. I watched one woman ask if she could go into the pen with the kids and she knelt down on the ground close to the kids with her camera pointed up at them to take a picture, and I remember thinking, “She knows how to get a terrific picture of her son, I hope Rachel isn’t too much in the way.” I laughed to myself a few minutes later when she introduced herself to me as a photographer for the Daily Herald and asked me for Rachel’s name and age to publish with her picture the next day in the paper. I wondered if they would use her picture or not, so I didn’t mention the picture to Rachel or Joe; I got to surprise them the next day when the paper printed a 5x7 picture of Rachel feeding the lambs as well as a 3x5 picture of her petting them. I ended up with a terrific picture after all. I created a link to the website where Rachel's pictures were posted. Rachel's two pictures are thumbnails underneath the main picture.

Wintertime Fun

Joe made a sledding hill in our backyard earlier this year. The kids loved it. Brock shows off his sledding skills in this video. I know it's not winter anymore - I just need to catch my blog up on all our fun!

Leaving

Joe, the kids and I went to the MTC yesterday with Josh. I wondered how our kids would do saying goodbye to Josh. The kids all gave him a great big hug and Jared did well, until Josh left and we walked out the door and also said goodbye to Jon, Ruth and Jeffrey (they left right away to move to Texas). Jared started crying and Joe asked, “What’s wrong buddy?” Jared said how hard it was to say goodbye to Josh, and then Jon, Ruth and Jeffrey, and that he missed his Uncle Jake, too. Jared then said, "In the car, on the way home, and probably all afternoon at home, I think I’m just going to cry.” Jared also said how he wished he was born when Josh was so he could go to the West Indies with Josh. We'll miss living close to our family, but we know that we'll always be close.

Five of my favorite memories with my family:
1. Playing Rockband (thank you Josh)
2. Rummy -- I had to beat you last time just so you can look forward to winning the next time we play, maybe.
3. Playing in the snow: sledding, snowmobiling, and skiing
4. Waterskiing at Ririe Reservoir
5. Our trip to Disneyland

California Adventures: Disneyland

California Adventures

Joe and I wanted to take our kids to Disneyland with our family – in April we made it, and luckily, just in time for everyone to come: Jake left a week later to Iraq; Josh leaves to the MTC next week for the West Indies mission; and Jon and Ruth move to Texas next week as well.

We love our family and feel sad about everyone leaving us! We can’t wait for Jake to come back. He’s so kind to our kids and we all sure love him. And we’ll just have to visit Jon, Ruth and Jeffrey in Texas as often as possible. I look up to and want to be more like Jon and Ruth: friendly, loving, and good. We feel excited for Josh to serve a mission, even though we will miss him while he’s away. He’s such a good friend and example to Jared, Rachel, and Brock. They love their Uncle Josh: He’s their buddy.

I enjoy looking at these photos and remembering all the fun we had with Gran and Grandpa Saurey, Mom and Dad Bryan and the rest of our family.

A Day At Newport Beach
